Well, well, well, look at you, all fancy with your “Guangzhou area tea tasting WeChat.” What’s that? Sounds like some kinda newfangled contraption. Back in my day, we just drank tea. We didn’t need no WeChat to do it. But hey, I reckon things change. Guangzhou, huh? That’s a big city, ain’t it? I hear they got all sorts of things there, even fancy tea places. I guess you young folks like that kinda stuff, all them tea tasting places and your fancy gadgets.

That’s a fancy word for folks who are picky about their tea. This market’s on Yongning Street, Liwan District, they say. Number 12, I reckon. Sounds like a busy place.

They got all kinds of tea there, I hear. Not just your regular stuff, but all sorts. Green tea, black tea, maybe even that flowery tea. I don’t know, I just like plain old tea myself. But these folks in Guangzhou, they got it all. They say this Southern Tea Market, sometimes they call it Fangcun Tea Market. Same place, different name, I guess. Makes no never mind to me.

• They say there’s some restaurants too, fancy ones. Guangzhou Restaurant.
• One called The Westin Guangzhou. Sounds fancy.
• And another one, Hilton Guangzhou Tianhe. Real fancy that one. I guess if you like to be fancy while you drink your tea, them’s your places.

Now, they say the best tea comes from a place called…Fujian. It’s got mountains, see? And mountains are good for growing tea, they say. Makes sense, I suppose. Never been there myself, but that’s what they tell me. So a lot of the good tea in Guangzhou, it comes from Fujian. I ain’t one for them fancy names, but there is one called Long Jing. I guess it is some kind of special tea. Dragon Well tea, they call it in English. Comes from a place called Hangzhou, near some lake. West Lake, maybe? Don’t rightly know. But they say it’s real good. The leaves are long and flat, and kinda yellow-green. Fancy, huh?

And get this, they got some funny ways of doing things down there in Guangzhou. When someone pours you tea, you gotta tap your fingers on the table. Index and middle, they say. It’s like saying thank you, but with your fingers. I don’t know, seems kinda silly to me, but that’s what they do. It’s a Southern China thing, so maybe only the folks in Guangzhou area do it. If you want to learn about Guangzhou tea, I guess you need to know these things.

If you’re gonna go to Guangzhou, you gotta be prepared for all these things, I reckon. It’s a whole different world down there. Big city, lots of people, lots of tea. And this whole “tea tasting WeChat” thing, I don’t even know. Sounds like you’re gonna be busy. Me, I’m just gonna stick to my regular tea, thank you very much. Don’t need no fancy markets or finger tapping to enjoy a good cup of tea. Just a good cup and some peace. That’s how you drink tea. Or even just talk to friends and drink tea, that is good too.

Back in my day, we didn’t have all these fancy tea places. We just grew it ourselves, or maybe got some from the neighbor. Simple, you know? But I guess times change. Now you got your Southern Tea Market and your fancy restaurants and your WeChat and all that. You young folks and your new ways. But maybe it is good. You can find friends on WeChat, maybe you can find friends to drink tea with. Is good to have friends.

Just remember, tea is tea. Don’t get too caught up in all the fancy stuff. It’s about enjoying it, you know? Whether you’re in Guangzhou or anywhere else. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy your cup. That is what really matters. Well, if you are really into tea, then Guangzhou is the place. You can spend all day there, just drinking tea. You can bring your friends. I guess if you really like tea, you will like Guangzhou. That’s all I know about tea.
