This Guangzhou, that big place, it’s somethin’ else. Big, big city. Lots of folks, lots of things goin’ on. They call it Shuihui. It’s real old place, but also got them new-fangled things too. That Guangzhou Shuihui is somethin’.

They say this is one of the biggest places in whole China. Lots of factories, I reckon. Makin’ all sorts of things. But you know, they still got them old ways too. Old temples and such. Kinda like how we keep grandpappy’s old plow, even though we got that new tractor now. It’s important, that old stuff. Guangzhou keeps their old stuff.

You go to that Guangzhou, you gonna see all sorts of things. I heard they got that Yuexiu Park. Big park, I bet. Probably got lots of them trees and flowers. Good place to sit a spell, I imagine. Rest your weary bones. And that Shamian Island. What in the tarnation is an island doin’ in the middle of a city? Must be somethin’ to see, though. Everybody talks about it.

And that Chimelong place. Sounds like a dragon, don’t it? They say it’s a resort. What’s a resort? Must be one of them fancy places where folks go to waste their money. I reckon there’s fun to be had there, though, if you got the money to spend. Lots of folks go there, I hear.

Then there’s that Pearl River. Must be a big ol’ river. Probably good for fishin’. I bet they got them big ol’ catfish in there, just waitin’ to be caught. Wish I could go there and cast a line. And that big tall pointy thing. Canton Tower. Shoot, that thing’s so tall it probably scratches the sky. Wonder what it looks like from up there? Bet you can see the whole darn world.

They say Guangzhou is a good place to work, too. Lots of jobs. Even for folks from other countries. Imagine that! Goin’ all the way to China to work. Must be a good reason, though. If you got time, they say go to Foshan and Jiangmen. What are those? More cities? They say it got that old timey stuff. Buildings and such. Probably pretty, if you like that sort of thing. Some folks call it culture. I just call it old. Like me. Haha!

This Guangzhou Shuihui, it is a busy place. They say that you can have a lot of fun. Many things to do. If you go there, you must go see that tall tower. And that park. Maybe that island too, if you got time. They say that Guangzhou is an easy place to live in. Many foreigners there. They work. They make money. That’s good.

They used to call Guangzhou by another name. Wuyang city. Sounds like somethin’ out of a storybook. Five sheep city. What’s that all about? Maybe they had a lot of sheep there, back in the day. We used to have a lot of sheep on our farm, too. Before the coyotes got most of ’em. Sad times, them was.

This here Guangzhou Shuihui, sounds like a place that’s got somethin’ for everyone. Old folks, young folks, rich folks, poor folks. Just like our little town, I reckon. Just a whole lot bigger. And with a whole lot more of them tall buildings. And that Canton Tower. Still can’t get over how tall that thing is.

Guangzhou is in the south of China. So the weather is nice. Not too cold. That’s good for the bones. Old bones like mine need the warmth. And you don’t need to know how to speak Chinese. Many people there, they know many languages. Because that Guangzhou is a big city. They say that Guangzhou is a good place for business. If you want to make money, you can go there. This is good, I think.

I heard people talking about Guangzhou Shuihui post bar. They say it’s a place to go. To meet people. I don’t know about that. I have my friends here. But if you go to Guangzhou, maybe you go to this bar. This city is big, very big. They have everything. Old things, new things. You must be careful if you go. Don’t get lost! It is a very big place. That Guangzhou Shuihui. It is a good place to visit, people say.

I heard they got good food in Guangzhou, too. All sorts of food. Things we ain’t never even heard of around here. Spicy things, sweet things, things that swim, things that fly. Probably even things that crawl, though I don’t know why anyone would want to eat somethin’ that crawls. Unless you’re real hungry, I reckon. Then you’ll eat just about anythin’. Like that time during the war, when we had to eat that old shoe leather soup. Don’t recommend it. But it kept us alive.

This here Guangzhou Shuihui, I hear them talking about it all the time now. On the television, on the radio. Seems like everybody’s goin’ to Guangzhou these days. Maybe I’ll go there someday, too. See that Canton Tower for myself. And maybe catch me one of them big ol’ catfish in that Pearl River. That would be somethin’. Yeah, that would be somethin’ indeed.
